Vincent Jackson packing his bags?
[picappgallerysingle id="2630825"]
Disgruntled San Diego Chargers WR Vincent Jackson could be on his way out of town. Last week, the Seattle Seahawks were rumored to have interest in Jackson, and now sources have linked interest in Jackson to the Washington Redskins. The article linked, states numerous “sources” as saying that Jackson and his agent are looking for more money than WR Brandon Marshall received from the Miami Dolphins. Marshall inked with the ‘Fins for 4 years 47.5 million dollars.
Now Jackson is a great receiver, however an increase in what Marshall received? Marshall has recorded three consecutive seasons with over 100 receptions and Jackson has 1 single season with just slightly over 80 catches. And Jackson believes he is worth more than Marshall?
Regardless, what is becoming very clear is that Vincent Jackson may well have played his last game for the San Diego Chargers.
Hey boss, the cops are here………..
The San Diego Chargers are being investigated for the incident regarding S Kevin Ellison’s arrest with unprescribed Vicodin tablets. Not only did the DEA agents search the Chargers facility, but members of the DEA searched the San Diego Padres offices as well.
A DEA spokesperson said, “The administrative inspection warrants were executed in an attempt to verify the correctness of the controlled substance inventories, records, reports and other documents required to be kept under the Controlled Substances Act and for the purpose of protecting the public health and safety”.
Public health and safety? What? How the hell does a professional sports franchise administering pills to it’s players have anything to do with public health and safety?
Chargers sign 2 draft picks
The San Diego Chargers have reached agreements with two draft picks. S Darrell Stucky, drafted in the 4th round and 7th round pick TE Dedrick Epps. Stuckey received a 5o5,000 dollar signing bonus and a base deal worth 2.29 million.
Epps inked a deal which included a 48,000 dollar signing bonus and a base value of 1.838 million.
Rb Ryan Matthews, LB Donald Butler and DT Cam Thomas remain as the only Chargers draft picks without a deal yet.
Can Floyd and Naanee fill the void?
The current threat of an extended holdout by San Diego Chargers Pro Bowl WR Vincent Jackson could pose some problems for the team in 2010. Jackson along with LT Marcus McNeill have refused to sign their tenders and have threatened to sit out for up to 10 games next season. Jackson has developed into a fantastic receiver and will be missed if he decides to sit but can Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee fill the void of Jackson’s absence?

Boise St. product Legedu Naanee will benefit the most from a Jackson holdout. Naanee is another large framed receiver at 6’2″ 220 pounds and had his best season last year in his young career with 24 receptions. He would most likely assume the role of the Chargers #2 receiver and if Jackson’s holdout does last 10 games, his fantasy value should rise dramatically.

Malcom Floyd will be moved into the #1 role and will see an increase in looks in Jackson’s absence. Jackson and Floyd both averaged 17.2 yards per reception. Floyd logged 45 receptions last season as the Chargers #2 receiver but only scored one touchdown. He is a freakishly large target at 6’5″ 225 pounds but it remains to be seen if he can flourish as a true number one target.
Of course, the best possible scenario for the Chargers would be to get Jackson on the team, but if he misses 10 games, the Chargers have to have another plan in place if they have playoff aspirations for 2010. Yesterday Jason LaCanfora said on the NFL Network that if the Chargers were to trade Jackson, the Seattle Seahawks would be active in persuing the reciver. This morning, it’s been confirmed that the Chargers were contacted by a team and they responded no thanks.
As another possibility, Terrell Owens is still unemployed. Just sayin….
Ellison, others dumped
The San Diego Chargers released S Kevin Ellison and three others on Monday. Ellison’s release doesn’t come as much of a surprise following his arrest approximately a month ago. He had been practicing with the Chargers for the past two weeks, but on Monday the team decided to head another direction.

Ellison will most likely be facing a league suspension if he remains in the NFL. He was arrest in May in Redondo Beach after police found over 100 Vicodin pills in his car and he did not have a prescription for the medication. He heads to court on July 7th.
Also released by the Chargers were OT Ian Scott, FB Cory Jackson and WR Jordyn Jackson.
San Diego’s training camp opens on July 25th when the rookies report. Veterans are scheduled to arrive July 29th and the first full scrimmage is slated for July 30th. San Diego’s first preseason game is August 14th against the Chicago Bears.
